“The systematic persecution of Uyghurs is not a historical relic; it is an ongoing, active genocide,” says Arslan Hidayat, a leader of the Save Uyghur Campaign (Justice For All, September 9, 2026).
“Millions of our brothers and sisters continue to languish in high-security prisons, subjected to forced labor, torture and cultural erasure. The Senate’s explicit recognition of our homeland as East Turkistan in Senate Resolution 444 was a powerful validation of our identity. To see the White House now welcome the dictator responsible for these horrors is a devastating betrayal. Every economic deal signed without human rights accountability is a moral stain.”
The current plan is that Xi Jinping will meet with President Trump on September 24, 2026.
Resolution 444 was accepted by the U.S. Senate on June 16, 2026. The abuse of Uyghurs and others in the Xinjiang region is one of several CCP policies condemned therein.
The Save Uyghur Campaign also notes that the U.S. State Department has for the last several years formally recognized that Xi’s government commits genocide against the Uyghurs and other Muslims in East Turkistan.
The organization contends that negotiating trade agreements with the People’s Republic of China, “specifically involving rare earth minerals lithium and graphite, threatens the integrity of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Enacted to prevent U.S. complicity in state-sponsored forced labor, the UFLPA establishes a strict rebuttable presumption that all goods mined, produced or manufactured in East Turkistan involve state-directed forced labor and are barred from entry into the United States.”
In May of this year, Justice for All’s Save Ughur Campaign criticized President Trump for failing to “publicly address the ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity targeting Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in East Turkistan” while in Beijing for meetings with Xi.
In November 2025, it had also objected to Trump’s meeting with Xi in Busan: “This bilateral contact represents a troubling shift from accountability toward normalization with a regime credibly accused of mass internment, forced labor, sexual violence, and the destruction of religious and cultural identity.”
