The Chinese government is investigating a woman, Zhou Yuan, who made money, a lot, we’re told, by giving other women tips on how to snare men.
Many people in China are upset about this kind of advice. And they’d rather glare at promotions for the offending videos, courses and other offerings and huff and puff about the heinousness of it all than go read a book or something.
After receiving or noticing the complaints, the Chinese authorities got involved, ordering Zhou Yuan (shown above) to “shut down all activities over concerns about social values.” A joint task force has been called into being. A red alert is blinking and blaring (VNExpress, February 3, 2026).
That seems to be the entire problem, “concerns about social values.” No intimation of fraud is reported. Zhou is very good at explaining to women how to entrap men, and that’s it.
On Jan. 30, market regulators in Changsha said they had formed a joint task force with public security and cultural authorities to investigate Zhou Yuan, a self-styled “sexual intelligence” instructor whose viral courses sparked intense debate over empowerment, sexuality and the objectification of women, Zaobao reported….
Her classes focused on topics such as how to please men and how to enhance female allure. In widely circulated short videos, Zhou demonstrated techniques including prolonged, intense eye contact and posing in an “X-shaped” stance to attract male attention….
The controversy intensified after Zhou’s content went viral, drawing criticism from academics and online commentators who accused her of reducing women to tools designed to serve male desire….
Zhou has pushed back against the accusations, insisting her courses were designed to empower women. She has argued that developing “sexual intelligence” allows women to take a more confident and active role in intimate relationships, rather than remaining passive.
Whatever Zhou is selling, sexual intelligence, fun, maybe just hope, it has offended the Puritan spirit that H.L. Mencken described as “the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.”
