Senator Blackburn easily won Thursday’s GOP primary for Tennessee governor. Fox News thinks that she’s also a shoo-in for the general, since “the Volunteer State…hasn’t elected a Democrat to its top executive role since 2006”
The year 2006 is a little less than an eon ago, and there hasn’t yet been much polling about relative support for Blackburn and Democratic nominee Jerri Green. But a survey conducted in late April 2026 has Blackburn leading Green 51% to 27%. The current governor of the state, Bill Lee, is prevented from running again by term limits.
One of Blackburn’s campaign pledges is to “prevent China from buying up Tennessee land, punctuating her commitment with a viral ad where she crushed a fortune cookie. ‘It doesn’t take a fortune cookie to figure it out. Here in Tennessee we’re going to stop communist China and protect Tennessee land,’ she remarked.”
The Green for Governor website lists several run-of-the-mill Democratic positions but nothing about curbing CCP-linked land purchases.
In recent commentary for Breitbart, Blackburn writes that even though Tennessee has already taken steps to restrict “the ability of citizens, entities, or agents of nations under national security regulations and certain federal sanctions to hold Tennessee land,” there are still loopholes. “I’ll increase the scrutiny and chase down every thread to ensure CCP companies that are in partnerships with U.S. companies or funds can’t get a foothold….
“Each acre that our foreign adversaries can get a hold of is another chance for them to undermine our food security, surveil Americans, and sabotage our safety. The Chinese regularly try and purchase land next to our critical infrastructure, like nuclear power stations or near our military installations.”
Blackburn also implies that she will take action against Chinese manufacturing and Confucius classrooms in the state.
