For many years, Shen Yun and associated Falun Gong organizations like The Epoch Times have reported bomb threats by pro-CCP fanatics targeting venues where the troupe is scheduled to perform.
Something like โDonโt let Shen Yun dance tonight or weโll blow you upโ is the kind of threat issued. Sweeps of allegedly bomb-laced environments typically turn up nothing. Shen Yun has soldiered on despite this constant harassment, which is done in conjunction with other forms of transnational repression as well as CCP-authored smears of the troupe that snare such publications as The New York Times.
There have been variations on the theme. The CCP thugs are now targeting heads of state in hopes that this level of threat will finally, finally shutter Shen Yun and its crowd-pleasing portrayals of pre-communist China. In response to the latest threat, the Australian prime minister was evacuated from his home for a while (The Epoch Times, February 26, 2026).
The bomb threat sent to local presenters said, โIf you insist on proceeding with the performance, then the prime ministerโs Lodge will be blown into ruins.โ
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was evacuated from his residence in Canberra on Feb. 24, following a bomb threat made in Chinese against him and other high-ranking officials.
The threat came just days before scheduled performances by New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts, a classical Chinese dance and music company that has been a target of Beijing for years.
Ahead of the companyโs Australian tour, due to start on Feb. 25, emails in Chinese sent to local presenters demanded that they cancel the shows or else face dire consequences. One email, obtained by The Epoch Times, falsely claimed that explosives had been placed around the prime ministerโs residence and that they would be detonated should Shen Yunโs performances proceed.
The prime minister was taken to another location for several hours while law enforcement conducted a search at The Lodge in Canberra. The Australian Federal Police on Feb. 24 found โno current threat to community or public safety,โ a spokesperson told The Epoch Times.
Local Australian presenters for Shen Yun said they received a Chinese-language email on Feb. 10 with the message, โIf Shen Yunโs performance goes ahead, something will happen to Anthony Albanese.โ…
โWe strongly condemn the Chinese Communist Partyโs escalating campaign of transnational repression targeting Shen Yun Performing Arts and Falun Gong practitioners worldwide,โ the [Australian] presenters said in a statement. โAll threats have been reported to Australian national security and law enforcement authorities. We appreciate the steps taken to ensure public safety and to protect elected officials, including the Prime Minister.โ
In between bomb threats, the Chinese consulates in Sydney and Melbourne have urged Australians to steer clear of Shen Yun performances. This is a reason to shut down the consulates and kick the โdiplomatsโ and other staff out of Australia.
It is useless to ask whether the persons making the threats are being directed by the CCP or are freelancing without any (explicit) CCP go-ahead. In this context, the Partyโs refusal to sincerely condemn and disavow those who have been targeting Shen Yun, sponsors, audiences, premiers and others is tantamount to endorsement.
