The House Oversight Committee and its chairman James Comer have been trying, trying, trying to get documentary evidence held by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security on vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz’s links to the Chinese Communist Party. Now the committee has finally submitted a subpoena.
In a September 30, 2024 letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that I’m guessing was lofted in folded-airplane shape into the nearest round file two minutes after Mayorkas received it, Comer writes:
The Committee has recently received whistleblower disclosures informing the Committee of serious concern among Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel regarding a longstanding connection between the CCP and Minnesota Governor Timothy James Walz. Specifically, through whistleblower disclosures, the Committee has learned of a non-classified, Microsoft Teams group chat among DHS employees—titled “NST NFT Bi-Weekly Sync”—that contains information about Governor Walz that is relevant to the Committee’s investigation. The Committee has also learned that further relevant information regarding Governor Walz has been memorialized in both classified and unclassified documents in the control of DHS. The attached subpoena requires DHS to produce these documents and communications regarding Governor Walz’s connections with the CCP;
Until now, Comer and his committee have been wasting time by asking for relevant documents from DHS and FBI without submitting a subpoena. The subpoena will—I predict, wrongly, I hope—be ignored, and no relevant documents about Walz’s decades-long interactions with the Chinese Communist Party will be produced. No classified, no unclassified, no revelatory Microsoft Teams group chat among DHS employees entitled NST NFT Bi-Weekly Sync.
On September 12, 2024, Comer had lamented the dereliction of FBI director Christopher Wray with respect to the committee’s request for documents relevant to Walz’s thirty or so trips to China over the years: “The deadline to produce such documents and information has passed, and the Bureau has failed to provide any response to the Committee. The FBI’s silence regarding Mr. Walz’s documented relations with CCP affiliates is inexcusable.”
At least we now have a subpoena. If and when DHS and Mayorkas fail to comply with the subpoena, what must happen is all possible legal action by Comer’s House Oversight Committee and nonstop press conferences and press releases. Stop the slow motion. Do we want this guy, Walz (shown above), CCP buddy, to be the vice president of the United States? Also, let’s try to keep in mind how easy it is for a vice president of this country to become its president.
