The Chinese Communist Party often lies about the evil things it does but also often tells the truth, sometimes at the same time.
Global Times: “Chinese public security authorities intensify crackdown on cults, illegal ‘spiritual cultivation’ training” (February 13, 2024).
China’s public security authorities intensified efforts to dismantle cult organizations in 2024, focusing on risk prevention, law enforcement, and comprehensive governance. They have worked to curb the growth and spread of cult organizations, mitigating potential threats to national political security and maintaining social stability, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) stated on its WeChat account on Thursday.
Public security authorities have intensified special operations against Falun Gong, “Almighty God,” and other cult organizations, enhancing enforcement efforts to disrupt and prevent unlawful cult operations, according to the MPS.
“Social stability” means “undeviating obedience to the Chinese Communist Party.”
Whatever a cult is, surely there is an all-important moral difference between a cult or organization that promotes religious or spiritual beliefs and rituals, resistance to tyranny, and remembrance of the past and a cult or organization that forcibly inculcates and demands universal sacrifice to the Moloch of the state and seeks to repress, torture, and/or murder all critics or even those who simply don’t fit into an idea of the ideal society.
The Global Times article talks about how the state is working to dismantle the networks of these cults “and eliminate their influence and ensure the safety of people’s lives and property,” but nothing about how churchgoing and the like, or “illegal training activities,” are in themselves jeopardizing lives and property. They do jeopardize undeviating obedience to the Chinese Communist Party.
“Authorities also urge the public to remain vigilant against cults and illegal training activities, recognize their true nature and severe harm, and actively resist them.” What kind of reader would obey? One who has learned not to pay attention or one who knows exactly what is going on and willingly collaborates.
We find truth. I take the CCP at its word that it is now more intensely cracking down on “illegal ‘spiritual cultivation.’ ”
We also find, in addition to open lying, much lying by omission. One piece of information being left out is how the Chinese party-state has prolifically murdered members of Falun Gong, Uyghurs, and other “cultists” in order to harvest their organs.
