The Chinese government is upset about a U.S. move to refrain from granting visas to Central Americans who are doing dirty deeds on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party.
Supposedly, the restriction violates something or other in the 111 articles of the United Nations Charter; which, if true, means that that document must be amended or tossed. Luckily, the U.S. government is able to formulate policy without being obliged to first obtain approval from bad-faith totalitarian pseudo-champions of the United Nations Charter (Reuters, November 26, 2025).
The policy, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will restrict U.S. visas for Central American nationals, and their immediate family members, who “are intentionally acting on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party and threatening our region’s stability.”
“Turning visas into political leverage runs against the #UN Charter and the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference. Central America is no one’s ‘backyard,’ ” the Chinese Embassy in Washington wrote on X.
It said that China’s cooperation with regional countries has contributed to local economies and livelihoods.
The embassy said international relations should be “built on respect and partnership, not pressure.”…
The U.S. has expressed its concerns about China’s increasing foothold in Latin America, a region historically under the U.S. sphere of influence.
Lord knows the Chinese Communist Party would never exert pressure on an individual, group or nation! Rather, comity and amity are its watchwords, and the doctrine of laissez faire is its guiding light. <—sarcasm
Newsweek summarizes the problem that the U.S. is trying to cope with: “China has expanded its presence in Central America through trade, infrastructure projects, loans, and diplomatic engagement. Chinese firms have invested in ports, energy, and telecommunications, while Beijing has deepened political and economic ties with governments across the region. U.S. officials and analysts view these activities as more than economic, citing potential risks to national security, including influence over critical infrastructure and access to sensitive data.”
The Chinese Embassy in Washington was rebuking a policy that the U.S. State Department announced in early September.
According to the secretary of state’s September 4, 2025 press statement, the idea is to restrict U.S. visas “for Central American nationals who, while in Central American countries and intentionally acting on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party, knowingly direct, authorize, fund, provide significant support to, or carry out activities that undermine the rule of law in Central America…. As a result, these individuals and their immediate family members will be generally ineligible for entry into the United States.”
